Your PTSA does a lot of wonderful things and we need to have folks to coordinate the activities.  New ideas are always welcome.   We need you to one of the few, the proud, the PTSA at Harrison Middle School.  Come a part of something exciting, and work with our students and school.  You will make our school the best it can be.

PTSA Committee Descriptions


6th Grade Bingo Social – Chair person and committee organize a  6th grade bingo

Red Ribbon Week – Volunteers are needed to help the school’s social worker with activities during Red Ribbon week in October.

Talent Show – This is a fundraiser and family evening.  Volunteers are needed to help send out letters of donations for the table basket raffles, volunteer the night of the Talent show, and be part of the committee.  

Talent Show – The Talent Show is an opportunity for our students to show their talent.  Chair person and Volunteers are needed to coordinate rehearsals, and the show.  

Community Service – Committee helps to organize and implement community service activities such as “make a difference day”, Red Cross bags, Red Ribbon week, food drives, etc.  This could be done in conjunction with school clubs and the B-W Council of Health and Safety.

School Supply Sale – This sale is offered several times a year to the students.  It allows students to purchase notebooks, pens, pencils, highlighters, and tablets, etc., at a reasonable price.  A chairman’s responsibilities would be to purchase the items for sale and coordinate volunteers for the sale.  Volunteers are needed to help with the sales during lunch periods.  The sales are usually in September, November, January & March.  The sale is during school lunch periods (between the hours of 10:30a.m – 1p.m.)

Teacher / Staff Appreciation – The first week of May is the official teacher appreciation week.  The committee will organize and serve a luncheon for the staff.   

Box Tops for Education – Chairperson will coordinate the Box Top Program.  Volunteers are needed to count and ship labels twice a year.   PLEASE CLIP & SAVE THE BOX TOPS AND SEND THEM INTO SCHOOL TO THE PTSA MAIL BOX!

Health & Safety – Committee helps to coordinate health/safety related programs such as vision screening, poster contests, etc. with our school and the B-W Council of PTAs.

Program assembly – The chairman works with the school principal on an educational assembly for the students of the HMS

Teacher Grant Program – Chairperson will generate and distribute grant applications (e-mailing the application is best) along with a letter explaining the program.  There are normally five (5) grants at $100 each and the committee of at least 3, will decide who shall receive the grants.

Sarris Holiday Candy Sales – This is a PTSA fundraiser.  The chairman will organize the sale for the holiday season.  Sale normally begins in October with delivery in early December.  This would include distributing a flyer, sending in the orders and distributing the candy orders.

Harrison Herald Newsletter – PTSA newsletter is distributed three (3) times a year, containing messages from the PTSA President, PTSA committees, and other important school related material.  The chairperson is responsible for collecting and assembling the articles for the newsletter.  Prior approval is need from the school principal.  Volunteers are needed to help with the distribution.

Membership – This is a year round committee. The Chair person will generate a membership drive, distribute a flyer, collect dues, and distribute membership cards. 

Delegate to B-W Council of PTA Attend monthly council meetings and report back to the HMS monthly meeting

Alternate to Region 3 – attend Region 3 meetings along with the PTSA President or in place of

Reflections (Arts in Education) – Cultural arts program with a pre-selected them sponsored by the National PTA.  Event runs from October through November.  Committee is responsible for organizing entries and selecting judges for each category.  Responsible for obtaining and presenting awards to the participants and winners.

Spirit Wear Sale – the T-shirt/spirit wear sale will start at Open house and run through October, with a delivery time to be determined at the school.  T-shirts should be ordered in late summer in order to accommodate at open house.  Chairperson would be responsible for placing the order and setting up for open house.   Flyers need to be distributed and orders placed with the vendor.   Pick up date for customers would need to be determined. 

By-Laws & Standing Rules – chairperson is responsible for making any changes to the standing rules that would be voted on at meetings.   By-laws need to be updated every 5 years.

Cartridges for kids – chairperson will work with the school office to set up a drop off place for the used cartridges,  Pack them up and ship out. 

Founder’s Day – Chairperson and committee, gather nominations and make a selection of who shall receive the Pennsylvania Lifetime Membership award at the B-W Council’s Founders Day Dinner.  

Legislation – Keep the membership informed of important issues.
